This installation is a meditation on trails and the maintenance of trails as a representation for a sustained relationship with place. Growing up in a rural area the lack of sidewalks or traditional trails engrained in my mind the worn look of walking paths in the landscape. The performance of trail making and mapping references the navigation of a new space and reflected my recent arrival in Lawrence, Kansas. This installation and performance took place in the gallery. I brought in leaves from people’s yards and installed it. Over the next 7 days I performed a walk through the leaves creating a path over that time.
